April🌱 is finally here! Spring Garden 2020 update.

Happy April Loves! A few post back I said that I would go into more details about our 2020 garden and what we are growing. I am happy to write this is that post! So we started this season by my husband prepping the beds that we would be transplanting our seeds into once they're mature enough and we are no longer under the threat of frost. He wanted to go for more of a market style set up so having the rows to walk through and provide plant maintenance was essential.
We used alot of chicken compost and the decomposing trees on the property to form our soil which was already pretty awesome. Alot of the compost had to be sifted to remove sticks and other material that didnt break down completely during the composting process.

Around March 20th we received our Seed from  The Bakers Creek Heirloom Seed Company. We ordered lots of seeds and was surprised to see that they had thrown in a couple extras for us.
Just a few of the many seeds we purchased

March 21st we began to plant seeds. With us not totally being out of the threat of frost, my husband decided to build us a small hoop house off the side of our back porch with pvc pipe, greenhouse plastic, and a pallet board. I immediately loved the idea. Below are pics of our finished product.
March 21st we planted an abundance of seeds. Here is a list of the seeds we have in our little hoop house growing: chinese multicolored spinach, thousands head kale, rainbow swiss chard, merlot lettuce, tatsoi, st. John's wart, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, stevia, butter crunch lettuce, galilee spinach, japanese red giant mustard, tennis ball lettuce, rock top lettuce, chinese pink celery, lemon balm, sage, lavender, rosemary, yellow sweet spanish onion, stinging nettle, echinacea, russian red kale, kohlrabi, strawberries and spinach. We are excited to see life in these pots as we continue to nurture and nourish this seedlings.

It's Day 11 since we started our seedlings on March 21st and here are a few pictures to show our progress thus far.

I'm thinking we can fit lots more seedlings in here to grow this season. In a week or so we will be planting another round of seeds to keep the food growing in succession. This is a great way to keep your greens and veggies coming while eating off the first round. I hope you all out there are inspired to grow your own foods. I feel that it is essential as we go through this uncertain time on our planet. Growing your own food has many benefits and is very educational, plus you get yourself up and outside in nature. By the way kids love gardening also so be sure to invite the whole family in on your garden project. The more hands involved the more love your garden gets and the more abundant it will grow. Till our next garden 2020  update, Thanks for reading. Take care of yourselves and each other. Happy social distancing💫
